Female Leaders are Lonely

Female leaders are lonely. Studies say that up to 60% of women in leadership positions find themselves feeling isolated and alone.
The common antidote to loneliness is to build community. Article after article solves the problem by saying “women leaders need more women like them to relate to.” And, to an extent, I agree.
But, what if it’s the community of other women that cause the loneliness in the first place? What if the female leader would rather choose loneliness over being immersed in a community that subscribes to a paradigm that doesn’t have her highest good in mind to begin with?
We operate in a society that does not favor women in leadership roles. It begins on the playground field and is carried into every business setting that hasn’t shifted the dynamics. In most community setting of women, each one delicately walks a tightrope of acceptance and approval, and one wrong move causes her to be exiled from the group.
Think about it, how many times have you heard the phrase “who does she think she is?”
